The Moving Picture Reel Experts Group (MPREG) is a working group in charge of the development of international standards for compression, decompression, recompression, and coded representation of moving pictures, audio and their combination. So far MPREG has erected:

• MPREG-1, the standard for storage and retrieval of moving picture reels (Nov. 92)
  

• MPREG-2, the standard for reel spinning (Nov. 99)

• MPREG-14, the standard for inserting multimedia entertainment (Oct. 103)

and is now developing:

• MPREG-34, the standard for reproduction of other media
  

• MPREG-69 the ultimate representation standard for information delivery

MPREG usually holds two meetings a year, every nine months. These comprise plenary meetings and subgroup meetings on Requirements, Growth, Delivery, Systems, Visual, Sonic, Test, R&R and Liaison. MPREG meetings are attended by some 300 experts from 20 countries.
